Back in 1984 I prayed to our Lord, that the next man I meet be my husband. Two weeks later my now husband walked into my life. Well according to me he was not my type and did not fit the profile...After holding off all physical contact for six months he decided to "buy a ring for a friend", whom I believed to be another woman he met prior to meeting me. I accompanied him to the jewelry store and believing the ring was for this other woman I picked the cheapest smallest diamond I could find. He asked was I sure that was a good pick? I assured him it was the right pick. As mad as I was,(unbeknownst to him that I was mad), I made it home and he later called my home and asked me if he could come over for dinner and I said no. He called back and spoke to my mother and she said yes he could come over. I forgot to mention he was a Marine on Embassy duty and was stationed in Zimbabwe. Any way he made it over and had dinner then called my step-dad, mother and my siblings into the familyroom and then one bended knee he asked permission from my mother and step-dad for my hand in marriage..I blushed until I felt my ears burning..anyway he pulled out the ring I had picked earlier in the day and I just about lost it...I said yes to his proposal and he slipped this ugly little ring on my finger and that was my engagement day..My step dad organized a beautiful engagement dinner with the Japanese Ambassador and the American Ambassador and some Marines and staff from both Embassies, ( my step-dad is Japanese).
